Dengue Prevention And Recovery: A Guide For The Monsoon Season

The number of dengue cases is going up during the monsoon season, which is when the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which spreads the illness, does well. Dr. Vaibhav K. Gupta, Associate Director of Internal Medicine at Medanta in Gurugram, said that the virus is spreading because of climate change, bad waste management in cities, and more people traveling around the world.

Dr. Gupta said that mosquitoes are also growing less sensitive to popular insecticides, which makes traditional ways of controlling them less effective. He gave two important tips for lowering the chance of getting dengue:

  1. Get rid of places where they can breed: Flower pots, old tires, and pet bowls are examples of containers that can hold still water. You should empty and clean them on a regular basis. Make sure that all water storage tanks are firmly sealed. Get rid of the stuff that is blocking your gutters and drains.
  2. Take care of yourself: Put insect repellent on skin that is exposed, especially around dawn and dusk. When you’re outside, wear long pants and long shirts. Put screens on all of your windows and doors and keep them clean to keep mosquitoes out of your home. How to Get Better After Having Dengue
If you or someone you care about gets dengue, eating well and drinking enough water are vitally important for a quick recovery. Dr. Gupta and Dr. Sumit Aggarwal, who is the Director and Head of Internal Medicine at Sarvodaya Hospital in Sector 8, Faridabad, give the following advice: Stay Hydrated: To avoid dehydration, especially if you have a fever, drink a lot of fluids including water, coconut water, and fresh fruit juices. Support your body’s defense systems by eating foods high in Vitamin C (like citrus fruits and bell peppers) and Zinc (like nuts and beans). Eat More Protein: Get enough protein from foods like chicken, eggs, and lentils, which are important for repairing tissues. Pick Foods That Are Easy to Eat: Soups, porridges, and mashed fruits are all soft and easy to digest. Increase Platelet Count: Dr. Aggarwal says that consuming foods like fresh fruits (papaya, pomegranate, kiwi) and leafy greens that are high in nutrients will help raise the platelet count, which is something that typically happens to people with dengue. Don’t take your own medicine: Dr. Aggarwal says not to take painkillers like ibuprofen, which can make bleeding more likely. People think that paracetamol is a safer way to lower a fever, but they should only take it under the care of a doctor.
