An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter Scale hit 66 km North Northwest of Bukittinggi, Indonesia today at 07:09 am: United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Anti-war protests in Russia-1,000s detained

Thousands in Russia protested against the Ukraine war today. The police detained hundreds of protesters on Thursday. They also detained over 1,700 people gathered in the former imperial capital Saint Petersburg, where many were detained by masked police officers. The anti war protests have gathered steam in Russia even as protests were reported from dozens on Russian cities according to an independent monitor report.

PM Modi speaks to President Putin

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed for an immediate cessation of violence during his telephonic conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin today. He also called for concerted efforts from all sides to return to the path of diplomatic negotiations and dialogue, said a statement from his office.

Ukraine crisis- All possible measures of evacuation being explored: Rajnath Singh

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh assured that all possible measure to bring back Indian citizens were being explored. He also hoped that peace would prevail. With a very volatile situation in Ukraine, the MEA is taking a number of steps to facilitate 20,000 Indian citizens in Ukraine and their families. The Indian government has expanded the Control Room set up at MEA to function 24X7. The MEA also said that in view of closure of Ukrainian air space, schedule of special flights stands cancelled. Alternative arrangements are being made for evacuation of Indian nationals.

Former Punjab Minister & SAD General Secretary Bikram Singh Majithia sent to judicial custody

Shiromani Akali Dal leader, former Punjab Chief Minister and brother-in-law of Sukhbir Singh Badal has been sent to Judicial Custody till March-8 by a Mohali Court. Majithia has been booked under the relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, on the allegations of his alleged involvement in a drug racket in the state.

Petition was filed by a man, who claimed to be adopted son of Gangubai Kathiawadi. Several cases have been filed against the movie seeking to halt its release. Gangubai Kathaiwadi is based on the real-life sex worker who rose to political prominence in the neighbourhood of Kamathipura in Mumbai.
