from September 20 and violators will face a fine of Rs. 2,000 and their vehicles will be impounded.

A notification to this effect has been issued by the Lieutenant Governor’s office. But to give road users sufficient exposure of the traffic movement during and before the October 3-14 Games, trials have been planned for three days from today.

People have been advised to avoid the exclusive Games lane during the trials and familiarise themselves regarding the pattern of traffic movement during the Games. There will be enough signages regarding commencement of stretches on which the Games lanes are rehearsed.

There will be sufficient traffic personnel deployment on the stretches being used for trial of exclusive Games lanes, the official said.

Initially, the restrictions on Games lanes will be operational during night time only as international flights carrying athletes are scheduled during those hours.

Though the route from Games Village to competition venues and airport has a dedicated lane, there will be no such facility for practice venues.

There will be no special lanes for roads leading to practice venues but motorcycle patrols will lead the convoys of athletes. The lane may be thrown open for public when no Games vehicle is scheduled to use it, the official said.

People are advised to avoid as far as possible CWG lanes in general and Safdarjung Road, Kemal Ataturk Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Sardar Patel Marg, Siri Fort Road, Harsukh Marg, Purana Quila Road and Mother Teresa Crescent Road in particular as these roads are having two lanes in one carriage way and one lane is already reserved for Games related traffic, the official said.

On Wednesday, from 12 noon for two hours, trials will be held from Commonwealth Games Village -NH24-upto Yamuna Sports Complex, Lodhi Road Madrasa -Lodhi Road flyover, Bhishm Pitamah Marg from T-point Lodhi Road- August Kranti Marg- Sirifort Sports Complex and Ring Road from T-point Bhairon Road upto Rajghat and Ring Road from Chandgi Ram Akhara to Mal Road.

On Thursday, trials will be held on Nizamuddin Bridge – Ring Road- Captain Gaur Marg upto Kalkaji Mandir and Sardar Patel Marg -Mother Teressa Crescent Road.

On Friday, trials will be held on Road No. 56- Road No. 58A upto Yamuna Sports Complex, Kalkaji Mandir- Ma Anand Mai Marg – Lal Kuan – M.B. Road – Surajkund Road Vinay Marg, Ring Road from Bhairon Marg upto Rajghat crossing and Ring Road from Chandgi Ram Akhara to Mal Road.

In a twist in the sensational rape case involving Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, his maid has backtracked from her allegations that he raped her at his residence in Mumbai last year and said the incident never occurred.

The 20-year-old girl appeared before a court on September 3, and said that she was never raped by Shiney and that she had filed the complaint against the actor at the behest of the woman who had secured her the job of a maid in Ahuja’s residence.

In June last year, the girl had lodged a police complaint alleging that she was raped by the actor at his residence. Shiney was subsequently arrested on June 14 and was released on bail three months later.

“On September 3, the victim identified Shiney in the court and said she used to work at his residence as a domestic help. But when asked about the incident she said it never happened and that she was never raped,” public prosecutor Kashinath Dighe said.

Following this, the court declared her hostile. If the court deems fit, she can be punished for perjury, he said.

The prosecution will continue presenting other evidence including the statements of 12 other witnesses, forensic reports and other documentary evidence.

The next date of hearing has been fixed on September 15.

The police in its 109-page chargesheet had charged Shiney with rape and wrongfully confining the victim. He faces a maximum punishment of ten years if convicted.

The victim in her complaint to the police had said on June 14 last year that she and the 37-year-old actor were alone in the house when Shiney allegedly raped her. The maid had alleged that Shiney had confined her to his bedroom for hours before allowing her to go.

Once she was allowed to go, she told her aunt about the incident who then took her to the Oshiwara police station to lodge a complaint.

Shiney in his defence had said that he was falsely implicated and that he was innocent.

The 46-year old Murali, who had acted in over 100 films, complained of chest pain this morning and was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, including Atharva, who made his film debut recently in the film “Baana Kathadi“.

Murali, son of famous Kannada film director Siddalingaia, made his debut in Tamil film in 1984 playing the lead role in “Poovilangu”, directed by Ameerjhan.

Murali was much-sought after actor in the 90s when he gave a string of hit movies. His notable films include ‘Idhayam’, ‘Pudu Vasantham’, ‘Porkalam’ and ‘Sundara Travels’

His latest film ‘Kavasam’ is slated for release this week, his family said.

Murali had campaigned for the AIADMK in the 2006 assembly elections.

NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will on Wednesday convene the Cabinet Committee on Security meet to discuss the current crisis prevailing in the Kashmir valley.

It has been reported that the Government will most likely discuss the Armed Forces Special Powers Act and initiate new steps to break the impasse.

Earlier talking to a group of editors at his residence on September 6, Dr Singh said: “A meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security is being called shortly to discuss the situation in the Kashmir Valley. I cannot promise you that I will produce a rabbit out of my hat, the country must learn to be patient.”

“Also the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir Government are looking out for options to address the concerns of the Kashmiris,” he added pointing out that the Kashmir problem has existed for 63 years and Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi had all attempted to tackle it. The Kashmir Valley violence has led authorities to impose frequent curfew restrictions across the State.

Curfew was initially imposed on June 30 in parts of northern and southern Kashmir to stop demonstrations over the death of a couple of protestors.

It was lifted some days later, but was again imposed as fresh violence erupted.

The Revenue and the Agriculture department personnel assisted the bankers in verification of pattadar passbooks and title deeds for sanction of fresh loans.The marathon interaction by the bankers had brought in a change in the mindset of Suddala Suresh, a medium farmer, who wanted to defer repayment of his crop loan of Rs 33,000 which he obtained during the previous khariff season in the hope that it would be written off by the government on the ground of floods in his area.

He changed his mind later and cleared the dues. Sore over poor recovery of agricultural credit loans, the bank top brass launched the loan recovery drive in eight upland villages falling under Dwaraka Tirumala, Chintalapudi and Devarapalli mandals in the district on Tuesday.To quote Prasad, the Dwaraka Tirumala Branch Manager of the Andra Bank, as many as 250 crop loans remained overdue in this village alone. When 1,500 farmers from different villages under the limits of his branch had borrowed crop loans amounting to Rs 8 crores in the last khariff, only 400 of them cleared the dues to the extent of Rs 3 crores in time. Non-recovery of loans up to Rs 5 crores worries the bank authorities. “It is not that farmers run short of money which is responsible for poor recoveries, but the expectations in favour of a fresh loan waiver”, observes a villager, Vasireddy Ramamohan Rao.
